Pearse Resurgence In March 2007, an international group of technical divers will make their way to both main islands of New Zealand to dive 2 of the most challenging and spectacular sites in the world. Firstly on the South Island, close to Mt Arthur (west of Nelson), lies the Pearse Resurgence. With the current limit of exploration at 120m depth, the chilly 8 degree waters of this marble cave will offer the 4 cave divers in the team a major challenge to further push the cave's limits, and capture the first high quality images of the system. Read more about the Pearse Resurgence HERE.
RMS Niagara 10 days later, the team of 4 will meet up with a second group of deep wreck divers to explore and photograph the "Titanic of the Pacific", the RMS Niagara. The Niagara lies in 120m of water on the ocean side of the Hen and Chicken Islands NE of Auckland. Using the awseome charter vessel the Pacific Hideaway based in Tutakaka, they will spend a further 10 days diving the wreck. Whilst exploration and photography will be the main goals, naturally they will have one eye out for the remaining bars of gold! Read more about the RMS Niagara HERE.
THANK YOU TO ALL THE SPONSORS OF NZTECH07 WHO ARE LISTED BELOW
To see how the expedition is progressing, look in ARTICLES under EXPEDITION UPDATES.
Pelican Products Australia
One of the well known figures in the Australian diving industry is Graeme Roberts of Pelican Australia. Graeme was making his own camera housings while we were still in floaties! The quality of Pelican's cases and lights speak for themselves, and we are very grateful for Graeme's extremely generous support.
Sea Optics in Adelaide are the nation's best known suppliers of high quality UW imaging equipment. Following the generous sponsorship of the 2006 Kija Blue sinkhole expedition, they are now helping us capture (hopefully!) terrific images of the Pearse Resurgence and the RMS Niagara. Thanks David Hill and Carey Harmer!
Almost the last of our sponsors but actually the first to help! Neil Miller aka Webguy, the man behind Australia's largest online scuba resource DiveOz; hosts and designed this website free of charge! A big fat thank you from all the members of NZTech07 and the other sponsors Webby!
Barry Andrewartha from Sport Diving Magazine in conjunction with Tatonka outdoor gear, have been quick to offer support to the Pearse Resurgence divers with gear designed to make life more comfortable in the remote Kahurangi National Park. Once again we are amazed by the generosity of the dive industry in supporting this type of venture! Thanks Barry, and thanks SDM and Tatonka!
For serious side-mount diving whether open circuit in a cave, or for your slings whilst on CCR; it is hard to go past the gear from Golem. They obviously dive the stuff because it just works! The few guys on the expedition who didn't use it before will be now; thanks to the generosity of the team at Golem Gear.
Many thanks to Rod and Suzie from Submerge Scooters for assisting with the purchase of one of their extraordinary HMI lights. This scooter mounted light represents the state of the art in underwater lighting for videography and exploration. We can't wait to see the results of filming with the light in the Pearse and on the Niagara.
Once again Tony Davis from Dive Rite Australia is giving generously of his time and resources to help out with one of our expeditions. Tony is always keen to support our trips and yet again we thank him and Dive Rite for getting behind Aussie tech divers.
Many thanks to Otter Drysuits for supporting the expedition with some of their fantastic Britannic suits! These suits have a huge following amongst wreck divers in the Northern hemisphere, and we cant wait to get some down south for a dive! Thank you Otter!
In the 7 degree waters of the Pearse Resurgence, the divers will wear the awesome Typhoon International heated vests to protect them on their 4-6 hour dives. A full report on this great product will follow the trip. Thanks Typhoon, cold water diving will never be the same now!
The magnificent power cat Pacific Hideaway has been used on previous Niagara expeditions and will again be our fantastic base with which to explore the amazing wreck of the RMS Niagara. Mark and Denise Barnes run a tight ship, perfectly appointed for this kind of trip or a day's diving out on the beautiful Poor Knights Islands.
DiveTekannounced today its intention to supply NZTech07 with crucial diving equipment and support. Daryl Waters and Simon Hadwin from DiveTek are themselves enthusiastic tech divers and understand the needs of such major expeditions. Many thanks for your help guys!
